An MRO Assistant supports the Medical Review Officer (MRO) by performing administrative duties related to workplace drug testing. This role does not include conducting any portion of the donor interview. Duties may include organizing test documentation, preparing files for MRO review, distributing reports, and assisting with donor call transfers. All MRO Assistants must be directly supervised by the MRO.

Eligibility & Requirements

To qualify for initial certification, candidates must:

  • Be a non-physician MRO Assistant directly supervised by a certified MRO
  • Pass the AAMRO MRO Assistant Certification Exam

Training is highly recommended; however, there is no specific assistant training requirement since many MRO practices have internal training programs. 

MRO Assistant Training Providers

AAMRO does not currently provide MRO assistant training. Courses are offered by:

  • ACOEM
  • ALCOPRO
  • DATAC
  • NDASA
  • SAPAA

Exam Details

  • Online exam offered year-round
  • 50 multiple choice questions
  • Open-book format
  • Immediate pass/fail results
  • 1 hour to complete once started

Fees

  • $285 Initial Certification Exam (training fee separate)
  • $50 discount for NDASA trained individuals

What to Expect After Registration

  • Immediate email receipt for payment
  • Confirmation email within 48 hours with login instructions
  • Immediate exam results upon submission
  • Retest information provided if not passed
  • Verification and certificate will be sent within 5 business days after passing
